
In a crackdown on illegal immigrants and foreigners who overstay their visas, Bengaluru city police on Friday arrested 200 foreign nationals, including 124 alleged Bangladeshi nationals.
Four teams of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) launched a targeted operation in east Bengaluru in Varthur and Kadugodi in the early hours of Friday. During the raid, police arrested 124 alleged Bangladeshi nationals, including 48 men, 42 women and 34 children, who were said to have taken shelter in makeshift sheds.
Police said the individuals are currently being questioned. The report was submitted to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further legal action, including deportation proceedings.
The operation was also assisted by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the Department of Social Welfare. Police said the drive would intensify in the coming days.
