Ciza Thomas, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of APJ Abdul Kalam University of Technology, took over as the next VC of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS), Kalady on Friday (March 6, 2026).
She was received by Registrar Mothi George. She assumed the charge a day after Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar removed KK Geethakumary from the post of SSUS Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect.
In an official statement, Mrs. Thomas said that the university will combine tradition and modernity while launching new projects and courses. She said the financial crisis facing the university would be brought to the attention of the government. It would be discussed with Higher Education Minister R. Bindu during her visit to the campus on Saturday (March 7, 2026) to launch various projects, the release said.
Ms Thomas said the university’s decision to consider a Bachelor of Fine Arts student who failed the 2005 exam as an exam graduate would be reviewed. He was later admitted to the Master of Fine Arts program in violation of norms, according to a complaint filed by the Save University Campaign Committee before the governor.
