Mohammad Amir hit out at Mohammad Kaif over his remarks that the former Pakistan fast bowler criticizes India only to gain attention and stay in the news. The exchange started after Amir called Abhishek Sharma a slogger and predicted that India would not make it to the semi-finals T20 World Cup 2026.
However, Amir’s prediction proved wrong as India advanced to the final where they will face Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.

Kaif later said that there is no need to pay attention to Amir’s views on India or cricket, suggesting that they do not come from real analysis. In response to these comments, Amir claimed that he has much more experience than Kaif in T20 cricket and said that he is not talking about India just to get attention.
“I don’t know about his cricket career, how much he has played. I checked his stats; he just played 29 matches in IPL. He has a strike rate of 103 (103.60). He said I am talking about India to get some attention. First of all, I don’t need to attract attention by talking about India. Mr. Kaif, I played his stats, T2 As0 YouTube channel.
“HE HEARD YOU’RE PLAYING FOR THE FIELD”
Amir also took a dig at Kaif when he said that unlike the former Indian cricketer, he did not play international cricket for his fielding but for his performances with the ball. Amir added that Kaif made his place in the Indian side mainly because of his fielding and should be thankful to Sourav Ganguly for the opportunities he got during his career.
“Besides, the lead bass player plays cricket nahi khela (I didn’t play cricket just for my acting). I played after the shows. Aap Dada ko dukshiku bole (You should be grateful Dada).
“I heard you played cricket just for the sake of fielding. You are a cricketer; these statements don’t suit you,” Amir added.
India, meanwhile, are one win away from becoming the first team to successfully defend the Men’s T20 World Cup title. After defeating South Africa in Ahmedabad, Suryakumar Yadav’s men bounced back strongly and are now one step away from winning a third title after triumphs in 2007 and 2024.
They overcame England by seven runs in a thrilling encounter in the semi-final and will be looking forward to carrying that momentum into Sunday’s final.
