Faf du Plessis heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah after his match-winning knock helped India beat England by seven runs in the T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday, March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Bumrah finished with figures of 4-0-33-1 as India stormed into the final after restricting England to 246 for seven 253 overall on defense.
Bumrah was excellent in the death overs as the Indian bowlers ran away with runs from the other end on an excellent batting surface at the Wankhede. Du Plessis said Bumrah is a captain’s dream and likened his impact to having a genie where you rub a lamp and magic happens.

“The Indian team doesn’t understand how lucky they are to have him (Bumrah) in their ranks,” du Plessis told ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut.
“It’s just been proven time and time again, regardless of the format, just give him the ball and he’ll win you matches. It’s a superpower that every captain will dream of; it’s like having a genie, you just rub the lamp and out comes Bumrah,” du Plessis added.
BUMRAH LIMITS ENGLAND IN BOMBAY
Bumrah played a key role in India’s narrow semi-final victory with a disciplined spell that kept England under pressure throughout the chase. Bumrah struck early by dismissing Harry Brook and getting just seven runs in his opening match.
Although Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks hit a couple of boundaries when he came back in the 11th over, Bumrah regained control at the death.
With England needing 69 off 30 balls, Bumrah played a brilliant 16th over in just eight overs to raise the required run rate. Another tight over followed in the 18th over, conceding just six runs to leave England needing 39 from the last two overs. Despite Shivam Dube conceding 22 runs in the last over, Bumrah’s spell proved decisive in India’s seven-run win.
Sanju Samson said Jasprit Bumrah should have got the Man of the Match awardhe called him a once-in-a-generation pitcher who held his nerve under pressure. Samson added that without Bumrah’s crucial actions at the death, he probably wouldn’t have won the award.
Bumrah now has 10 wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 6.62 and will look to maintain the momentum in the final against Mitchell Santner in New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
