Businessman Boby Chemmanur apologizes to the actor for his inappropriate behavior through a social media post

More than a year after his arrest for allegedly making sexually charged remarks to the Malayalam actress on social media and in person at the inauguration event, businessman Boby Chemmanur apologized to her in an Instagram post and asked her to drop the related case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested him on 8 January 2025 based on a complaint filed by the actor. He was booked on charges without bail, including sexual harassment on charges of sexually suggestive remarks and posting or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.

Mr Chemmanur also courted controversy by refusing to be released from judicial custody despite being granted bail in a sexual harassment case, saying he “wished to stand in solidarity with prisoners who cannot get out of jail” due to their inability to meet bail conditions. He later tendered an unconditional apology to the Kerala High Court.

“I realize that my statements about (the actor) have caused her and her family considerable suffering. I am deeply sorry for the harm I have caused. I take full responsibility for my words and their impact. I do not intend to cause pain and hope that with this sincere apology they will proceed to withdraw the case,” Mr. Chemmanur said in his post.

The actor answers

The actress replied that she appreciated the apology and accepted it. However, she remained non-committal about withdrawing the case. “I will make a decision after consulting the family and the legal team,” she said.

The actor also filed another complaint against 30 individuals for allegedly posting sexually charged comments under her social media post. In that post, she said that a person she did not name stalked her and used innuendos to humiliate her after she declined his invitation to attend certain events. She noted that the same person, seemingly out of revenge, began attending events to which she was invited. It later emerged that the person in question was Mr. Chemmanur.
