
On Thursday, the state cabinet decided to change the criteria for the appointment of sports quotas in government services. It has also been decided to invite applications for 243 vacancies under the sports quota for the period 2020-24. Additional sports competitions will be added as part of the qualification for appointment under the sports quota as per the amendments. It was decided to consider competitions like Commonwealth Championships, Asian Championships, recognized international championships involving at least eight countries and Khelo India University Games conducted by recognized federations. This will provide an opportunity for more athletes to secure quota jobs. The provision that completely exempts persons involved in doping scandals from this appointment was also amended. Instead, only competition and doping time will be considered disqualifications for appointment. Other achievements will be considered for appointment. Applications are invited for the last five years after completing the backlog of 10-year appointments from 2010 to 2019.
