
Ladakh Union Territory Governor Kavinder Gupta tendered his resignation from his post on Thursday, March 5, ANI reported citing people aware of the development.
Kavinder Gupta was appointed as the Governor of Ladakh on 14 July 2025 when President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of his predecessor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
Gupta is a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Jammu and Kashmir and served as Deputy Chief Minister under Chief Minister Mehboob Mufti.

Hailing from Jammu region, Jammu, the BJP leader notably served as the Mayor of Jammu for a historic three consecutive terms from 2005 to 2010. He has also served as the General Secretary of the state unit of the BJP and chaired the Jammu and Kashmir branch of Jammu and Kashmir for two consecutive terms since Yuva Bharatiya Moratiya. 1993 to 1998, according to the Ladakh Union Territory website.
Kavinder Gupta was first elected as an MLA from the Gandhi Nagar constituency in the 2014 assembly elections. He was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the House. Earlier, he served as the secretary of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Governor of West Bengal resigns
Apart from Gupta, earlier today, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose resigned from his post after sending his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu.
An Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Governor confirmed the development to a news agency and said, “Governor CV Ananda Bose has resigned from his post and sent his resignation letter to the President of India.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed shock over CV Ananda Bose’s sudden resignation as governor, saying she was not consulted about appointing RN Ravi as his successor.
“I am shocked and deeply disturbed by the sudden news of the resignation of CV Anand Bose, Governor of West Bengal,” Banerjee said on X.
“The reasons for his resignation are not known to me at this time. However, given the prevailing circumstances, I would not be surprised if the governor is under some pressure from the Union Home Minister to serve certain political interests on the eve of the upcoming State Assembly elections,” she said.
Banerjee said the Center should respect the principles of cooperative federalism and avoid unilateral decisions that undermine democratic norms and dignity of states.
