Roads and Buildings, Infrastructure and Investment BC Minister Janardhan Reddy, along with Kandukur MLA Inturi Nageswara Rao, District Collector Prakasam P. Raja Babu and State Maritime Board Chairperson Damacharla Satyanarayana on Thursday inaugurated the rehabilitation colony allotted to Karlapalem and relocated people to Ramayapatnam Port in Rapur.
Addressing the people on the occasion, the Minister said that rehabilitation colonies equipped with all facilities are being set up for the displaced people who have given green field land for Ramayapatnam Port. Of the total cost of the port of nearly ₹5,000 crore, the state government has already spent ₹1,800 crore and nearly 77 percent of the construction has been completed, he informed.
“With the coming of companies like BPCL, this area will further develop. We have paid special attention to provide better rehabilitation to the project affected villages. The rehabilitation work of the project affected villages of Mondivaripalem, Avulavaripalem, Karlapalem and Salipet have been done using state-of-the-art facilities,” said Mr. Janardhan Reddy.
“We have completed the construction of a rehabilitation colony on 23.08 acres for 220 displaced families from Mondivaripalem and Avulavaripalem villages and the respective families are already living there. The government has prepared new R&R colonies of 43.67 acres for 371 families of Karlapalem village and the minister of 8.26 acres in Salipetem village.
“Under the package, the government has allocated 5 cents of land for each family to build a house. We have provided infrastructure like wide CC roads, sewerage system, uninterrupted power supply, overhead water tank and RO plant for drinking water in the displaced colonies. A skill development center is being set up to provide employment to the local youth,” he added.
After the completion of the construction of this port, nearly 6000 people will get direct employment and 60000 people will get indirect employment. As part of the rehabilitation of fishermen, a fish landing center (fishing jetty) is being developed at Ravur village under the auspices of AP Maritime Board without affecting their livelihood.
