Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif called out Mohammad Amir for his constant targeting of the Indian cricket team. Amir, who had earlier called Abhishek Sharma “nothing but a slogger” and predicted that India would not make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, faced a strong backlash from Kaif a day before the India vs England match.
Kaif said on his YouTube channel that Amir was making inflammatory comments about India to stay in the news and should not be given the importance he so desperately seeks. Kaif added that there is no need to accept Amir’s views on India or cricket as they do not come from real analysis.
“Did Amir really not know that India would make it to the semi-finals? Of course he knew that the defending champions would make it. But they say these things because it’s becoming news. We mustn’t give importance to them. There’s no need for us to come down to their level and answer,” he said on his YouTube channel.
Kaif also questioned Amir’s cricketing credentials, referring to Pakistan’s T20 World Cup group stage match against USA. Kaif reminded the fans – and perhaps Amir – that the Pakistan pacer failed to restrict the USA in the Super Over of this match by bowling a few wides. Kaif said that a bowler who could not even win a match against USA was not worth taking seriously.
“The loss they faced against USA in 2024 – it was the same bowler. He conceded only one boundary in that match but he bowled too many. His balls didn’t even hit the stumps. Who got scared against that USA team and his team lost? Needless to say,” Kaif said.
In his closing remarks, Kaif also criticized the entire Pakistan team and the country’s cricketing culture. He said the country was many years behind India in the sport and lacked leadership in key positions across its structure.
“Why are we focusing on him? The country is so far behind in the sport – they have no players, no solid captain, no solid bowler, nothing. Leave them alone. We don’t have to respond to everything they say. They can’t get to our level. They have different problems. If we focus on their comments, it’s like we’re giving them importance and that’s what they want anyway,” he concluded.
Pakistan has been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA T20 World Cup from the Super 8s stage. This is the second World Cup in a row in which they failed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
