Hi friends! How are you? I hope your week is going well so far! Today, I’m teaching a Barre class and looking forward to grabbing juice with a friend later.
For today’s post, I’m sharing a roundup of the books I read in February and whether I recommend adding them to your TBR (To Be Read) list. After a bit of a reading slump and balancing Healing Code (linked here) and my work with IHP3 (linked here), I managed to finish three books last month—a victory in my book!
Here’s the full roundup:
February 2024 Reads
1. Lotus Shoes
I’m a fan of Chinese historical fiction (I loved Circle of Women Lady Tan linked here), so this one immediately caught my attention. Lotus Shoes tells the story of Little Flower, a young girl sold as a muizi (maidservant) to a prominent family. Despite her low status, she has bound feet and excels at embroidery—qualities typically reserved for the upper class.
The book is packed with action and maintains a fast pace, making it an engaging read. However, it also broke my heart multiple times as it highlights themes of resilience against overwhelming odds. If you enjoy historical fiction, I highly recommend this one. 10/10
From Amazon:
Set in 19th-century China, “Lotus Shoes” explores the life of Little Flower, a maidservant with bound feet and a talent for embroidery. As she navigates the complexities of her station and the rivalries within the household, she faces both danger and opportunity. A testament to strength and survival, this story is both heartbreaking and inspiring.
2. You Can Heal Your Life
This book was highly recommended on a podcast, so I downloaded it right away. During a particularly challenging time in my personal life (everyone’s healthy, but it’s been rough), it brought me a sense of peace and helped shift my mindset.
The book includes mantras and exercises designed to reshape your thoughts and influence your reality. Filled with positive affirmations, it’s an uplifting and calming listen. If you’re looking for something to boost your spirit, this is a great choice. 9/10
From Amazon:
Louise Hay’s groundbreaking book explores the mind-body connection and how limiting beliefs can hold us back. Packed with practical wisdom and affirmations, it offers tools to transform your thinking and improve your well-being. A must-read for anyone seeking self-healing and empowerment.
3. Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies
This book caught my eye because 4-A disorders (Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies) are increasingly common in children, and I’m always seeking new ways to help kids thrive.
The author, Dr. Kenneth Bock, presents a biomedical approach to addressing these disorders, focusing on nutrition, supplementation, detoxification, and medication. While some of his views on vaccines are controversial, I found value in the program he outlines. However, parts of the book feel outdated and could benefit from modern updates. 7/10
From Amazon:
Dr. Bock’s innovative program addresses the root causes of 4-A disorders through a comprehensive biomedical approach. Drawing on research and clinical success, this book offers hope and practical solutions for parents seeking to improve their children’s health.
So, tell me, friends: What have you been reading lately? Any new historical fiction you’ve enjoyed?
