The Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy “lacks vision and has no mission for public welfare but has worked only for commissions” for the past two-and-a-half years, the Telangana BJP alleged on Wednesday.
Addressing a media conference at the state office, party vice-president and former MLA NVSS Prabhakar wondered whether the chief minister’s authority was intact given that he was “forced” to make 60 transfers of IAS and IPS officers during his tenure in an effort to set the administration on track.
“Such large-scale transfers at frequent intervals indicate a lack of stability in the administration,” he said. Mr. Prabhakar noted that Mr. Revanth Reddy had recently announced a ’99-day action plan’ directing District Collectors to stay in villages for at least 10 days and interact with people.
“Does this mean these officials have not visited the villages for the last two years? Did they not meet the people directly? Does anyone even listen to the Chief Minister when he repeats the same instructions at every meeting?” he asked.
The former MLA accused the government of a lack of direction, as was also evident in its decision to first create a larger municipal corporation for Hyderabad by merging peripheral villages and then splitting the same area into three separate civic bodies. He argued that this not only undermines the reservation process but also shows that the ruling dispensation lacks strategic vision.
The BJP leader further criticized Mr Revanth Reddy for his “60 visits” to Delhi, claiming that these trips were aimed at consolidating his own position rather than focusing on governance in Telangana. During the biennial Rajya Sabha elections, he said there was considerable confusion due to the ongoing Supreme Court hearings on defections to the ruling party.
“On the one hand, the defecting MLAs say they are still with the BRS and the speaker reiterated the same view. Others are seeking more time to respond to the notice. There are doubts about both the Congress and the BRS and their stand in this scenario,” he said.
A BJP leader suggested that the two parties should either merge or form an open alliance instead of continuing to “deceive the public with paper battles”, as he claimed the BRS had done earlier when it was in power.
