Police raided an illegal hookah bar in Mysuru on March 3, seizing hookah pots and various other materials and arresting one person.
The raid was conducted at the premises located on the second floor of a building near Mathrumandali Circle in VV Puram Police Station limits. The arrested person is Sanjay, 25, a resident of Paduvarahalli, who is accused of illegally running a hookah bar.
The accused operated a coffee shop where hookahs and tobacco-related materials were illegally used, posing a potential health risk to people, especially the youth.
During the raid, the police seized hookah containers worth ₹50,000 and about 27 types of materials used in making hookah. Two persons consuming hookah in the premises were detained and handed over to the VV Puram police for further action.
The VV Puram police register cases under Section 125 and Section 3(5) of the BNS and Section 4 (A) and Section 21 (A) of the COTPA Act. Further investigation is underway.
