Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s best female tennis player, got engaged to her partner Georgios Frangulis on Wednesday, March 4. The engagement was made public after Sabalenka shared a clip on Instagram that showed Frangulis proposing to her in a romantic setting.
The proposal included a private celebration where Frangulis presented Sabalenka with a diamond ring surrounded by flowers and candles. Sabalenka looked surprised and emotional as she accepted the ring, and the couple shared the news online. The tennis fraternity welcomed the news with the likes of Ben Shelton, Novak Djokovic and others sending their wishes to the couple.
Sabalenka’s relationship with Frangulis was made public in May 2024 and has been the subject of speculation ever since, especially after she hinted at getting married during the Brisbane International in January. After the win, she thanked her team and added: “Thank you my friend. Hopefully I’ll give you another call soon, won’t I?”
Their relationship has developed publicly over the past year. Frangulis, the founder of the Oakberry brand, has often shared messages of support. Following Sabalenka’s US Open win, Frangulis wrote on Instagram: “I’m in love with the Queen of NY”.
Sabalenka discussed the challenges she faced before this engagement. In July 2024, after withdrawing from Wimbledon due to injury, she referred to Frangulis as ‘the love of my life’. The previous months had been marked by personal loss as her previous partner, Belarusian ice hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, died March 2024.
FOR NOW SABALENKA 2026
Sabalenkova started the year with a run to the final of the 2026 Australian Open. However, she suffered another loss at the last hurdle, losing to Elena Rybakina in a thrilling three-way tie in Melbourne.
The Belarusian world number one will now move on to the French Open, where she lost in the final last year as well.
