Mohammad Amir has slammed Mohsin Naqvi and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for trying to scapegoat players after Pakistan’s stunning T20 World Cup 2026 run. According to a report by The Express TribuneEach player in the team could be fined PKR 5 million (approximately 16 thousand rupees) after the team failed to meet performance standards.
The move, believed to have been initiated by PCB chairman Naqvi, signals a tougher stance by the board when it comes to international setbacks. Insiders suggest that the management’s patience has run out after a string of disappointments in key ICC tournaments. However, Amir condemned the move by the PCB, saying that the fines should also cover the administration.
The former pacer said the selectors should be held responsible for bad combinations.
“If fines are the solution, apply them to everyone – from the selectors to the administration. The players were not forced at gunpoint. Make the selectors responsible for bad combinations. Double the fine for them. Stop making the players scapegoats. This is not the real solution. Why do the players have to suffer all the time?” Amir said on the talk show.
“If you can’t pick the right combination, those who picked the team and wrote the plans have to answer. Are you going to fine even Fakhar Zaman who played only two games? What about Sahibzada Farhan?” he asked.
FINES ARE NOT THE SOLUTION
Amir said that fines are not the answer and it is high time the PCB started focusing more on domestic cricket. The former pacer said the players should be dropped for their performances instead of fining them and telling them to perform well on the domestic circuit.
“Fines are not the answer. I’ve said it from day one – invest in domestic cricket. That’s where you’ll find quality players. If you’re mad at someone, don’t fine them, drop them and tell them to serve consistently for two years in domestic cricket. The biggest punishment for a player is being left out of the team,” added Amir. ‘
This was the second T20 World Cup in a row that Pakistan failed to make it to the semi-finals. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup T20, Pakistan managed to defeat one full member in the form of Sri Lanka and suffered defeats to India and England.
