Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined Rs 1000 for speeding in Ranchi after his vehicle was caught violating traffic norms. The e-challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act after the city’s transport system registered an offense near his residence.
An automated tracking system detected a vehicle exceeding the speed limit, after which a digital challan was generated as part of the traffic enforcement process in Ranchi.
Although the offense itself is minor, developments involving the former Indian captain rarely go unnoticed and quickly attract attention among fans and on social media.
This comes days after Dhoni faced yet another legal issue when the Jharkhand State Housing Board issued him a notice for allegedly misusing a residential plot in Ranchi. Authorities expressed concern that the property, which had been zoned exclusively for residential use, could have been used for commercial activity.
Officials said the plot is located on Harmu Road in Ranchi, where Dhoni used to live before shifting to his current residence on Ring Road.
DHONI SETTING UP FOR IPL 2026
With IPL 2026 around the corner, Dhoni has already returned to training with Chennai Super Kings and eased into clean sessions as the franchise gears up for the new season.

Dhoni has been retained under the unrestricted player rule for Rs 4 crore, a structure that continues till season 2026. Although he no longer bats high up the order, his role at the back end of the innings still carries weight.
Last season, Dhoni scored 196 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 135.17, mostly making quick cameos in the final overs.
Despite being 44 years old, Dhoni’s tactical awareness and ability to command the dressing room remains central to the franchise’s identity as it seeks a fresh start in IPL 2026.
