The Cuddalore district police on Monday destroyed over 5,300 kg of gutkha products that were seized in various cases across the district.
On the orders of Cuddalore Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar and as part of continuous operations to curb smuggling and use of gutkha products, the police destroyed a total of 5,323 kg of contraband with the permission of the court.
Gutkha products were seized in numerous enforcement operations and vehicle checks across seven police divisions in Cuddalore district. The disposal process was carried out after strict adherence to legal and environmental standards on site in the district.
The entire process was overseen by Mr. Jeyakumar and officials from the Food Security and Revenue Department.
