Indian opener Smriti Mandhana on Tuesday climbed to the top of the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings after her brilliant performances in the recently concluded three-match series against Australia.
Mandhana (790 rating points) made remarkable scores of 58 and 31 in the series to move ahead of South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt (782). Wolvaardt will have the opportunity to reclaim the No.1 spot when South Africa take on the New Zealand women’s national cricket team in March and April.
Australian batsman Alyssa Healy, who scored a century in her last ODI appearance, signed for fourth on the list (744), sandwiched between team-mate Beth Mooney (749) and Ashleigh Gardner (724).
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is the other Indian in the top 10 at number nine. Jemimah Rodrigues is in 12th place.
Despite India losing all three matches of the ODI series, there was some reward for Harmanpreet (652 rating points) who moved four places back into the top 10 for batsmen thanks to scores of 53, 54 and 25.
Among bowlers, Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma is the only Indian in the top 10, ranked 10th.
Australia’s Alana King (775) has surged to the top of the Women’s ODI Bowling Rankings, ending Sophie Ecclestone’s nearly four-year reign as No.1. Gardner is third on the list.
During the week, King led both teams with seven wickets at an average of 16.71 and took 4/33 from 10 overs in the third ODI, helping the hosts to a 185-run victory. The performance vaulted her to the No. 1 ranking, with her 775 points in the rankings also marking a career high.
King is joined in the top eight by four Australian players – Gardner (third), Annabel Sutherland (fifth), Megan Schutt (seventh) and Kim Garth (eighth).
There were several other performers from the series who could enjoy a boost in ratings.
After losing two of the three T20Is on home soil, Australia bounced back to win three ODIs as part of the multi-format series, with success through Mooney, Gardner and Healy bringing down the curtain on her ODI career.
In the ODI all-rounders’ rankings, Gardner (516) continues to hold the No.1 spot, almost 100 points ahead of West Indies captain Hayley Matthews (418) in second place.
Sutherland (408) climbed two places in the all-rounders’ rankings, while youngster Georgia Voll (534) jumped 23 places to 34th in the batting rankings after averaging 54 in the three-match ODI series.
Deepti also figures in the top 10 list of all-rounders, at number five.
