Youth sentenced to 24 years RI in POCSO case
A Special Fast Track II Court in Manjeri on Saturday (June 27) sentenced a 22-year-old man to 24 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl under the guise of love.
Justice Varun KS convicted Swalih V under several sections of the POCSO Act and imposed a fine of ₹65,000.
The court heard that Swalih befriended the girl over a mobile phone in 2024, took her to various places and abused her on several occasions in July and August.
A case has been registered at Vazhakkad police station. The District Legal Services Office has been ordered to pay the survivors further compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme. Swalih was shifted to Tavanur Central Jail to serve his sentence.
