
The Regional Passport Office (RPO) at Panampilly Nagar here on Monday (March 2, 2026) received a fake bomb threat, prompting the police to conduct a thorough search of the premises and launch an investigation.
The threat, published in two email messages, allegedly claimed that all passport and post office buildings in the city would be destroyed using poison gas and improvised explosive devices.
The Ernakulam South city police along with the bomb squad conducted a detailed search of the premises after being tipped off. Checks were also carried out in the office of the Chief Postal Inspector. However, nothing suspicious was found, police said.
The police registered the case in connection with the incident based on the initiative of the passport deputy.
