BJP state president PVN Madhav demanded the arrest of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying he ran the liquor scam by centralizing the purchase, supply and sale of liquor through AP State Beverages Corporation Limited and appointing close officials in the Excise Department to run the scheme on his instructions.
Referring to the 305-page charge sheet filed by the SIT, Mr Madhav said Mr Jagan played a key role in the ₹3,500 crore fraud.
In a press release issued on Monday, he said that widespread irregularities in the implementation of the liquor policy came to light during the Janata Varadhi party programme, which brought detailed complaints of alleged manipulation of the entire supply chain from production to retail for illegal profits.
He further alleged that digital transactions were deliberately banned in liquor outlets as part of a conspiracy to divert black money and that some distilleries were taken over to promote substandard brands.
Mr. Madhav claimed that the involvement of Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy and Balaji Govindappa was proved through call data records, Google Takeout data and other documentary evidence. He added that cases have been registered against 48 persons of whom 16 have been arrested and properties worth ₹62.86 crore have been attached.
Demanding transparency, Mr Madhav called for a White Paper detailing liquor sales, turnover, tax collection and deals with distilleries, saying full disclosure was necessary to hold accountable those responsible for allegedly looting public money.
