Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that all Indians, including Kannadigas, stranded in the conflict-hit West Asian countries will return home safely once air traffic resumes.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru on March 2, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Union Government had taken all necessary steps to facilitate the safe return of stranded Indians, especially those in transit centers like Dubai.
Recalling similar crises in the past, he said the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had successfully airlifted Indians to safety. “We are making every effort to ensure that everyone returns safely this time as well,” he added.
“I have personally contacted Kannadigas stranded in countries, including Dubai, which are under the shadow of conflict. They are all safe and will return safely. No need to worry,” he said.
Alleged misuse of intelligence wing
Responding to a query about the alleged misuse of the intelligence department by the government dispensation in the state, Mr Kumaraswamy alleged that factions within the ruling party – one linked to a leader aspiring for the chief ministerial post and the other working to protect Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s position – were gathering information through intelligence channels.
Asked if phones were being tapped, he said that such practices happen under all governments. “Sometimes a few heads may roll when such cases come to light. But in my experience, wiretapping happens under all governments,” he said.
