Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said that the state government intends to set up nursing colleges under functioning medical colleges.
He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a nursing college at a cost of ₹ 9.86 crore under Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board grants at Yadgir on Monday.
Dr. Patil said two nursing colleges at Jewargi and Sedam at Kalaburagi have already started and now a similar college will come up here soon.
“In the next phase, nursing colleges will be built based on demand across the state,” he added.
Students from poor families will get an opportunity to study nursing courses once these colleges become operational. Nursing graduates have ample job opportunities in India as well as abroad, especially in Japan, Germany and Italy, where Indian nursing students are in highest demand, he said.
He also said that the state government wishes to set up language labs to teach the languages of specific countries where nursing students want to provide services. Therefore, students should acquire the character of services, acquire language skills and good communication skills.
Giving details of future developments in the medical sector, the minister said that the state government has started new medical colleges in Bagalkot and Ramanagara based on the decision taken by it in 2013.
He said a plan was in place to set up super specialty hospitals, trauma care centers and cancer hospitals in each district in the next five years.
“Ongoing projects for construction of super specialty hospitals in Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Belagavi, Koppal, Ballari, Hubballi, Shivamogga and Chikmagalur districts are almost ready and will soon be dedicated for public service. Moreover, such hospitals may be established in Yadgir, Karwar and Gadag districts based on availability of funds,” he said.
