Congress leader Rajeev Shukla on Monday made a sarcastic remark aimed at Donald Trump, suggesting that the US president should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the amount of conflicts he has “caused”.
“For the amount of fighting and conflict that Trump has caused, he certainly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize,” Shukla, a Rajya Sabha MP, said in a post on X in Hindi.

The tone of the comment, which came amid an escalation of the Middle East conflict following the US-Israeli attack on Iran, was actually ironic. The congressional leader suggests the opposite — that instead of promoting peace, Trump’s actions have allegedly contributed to tension or instability.
Shukla, who is also the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), came on the third day of the conflict in the Middle East, where Iran-backed Hezbollah launched strikes in Israel on Monday in response to the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Saudi Arabia’s state oil giant Aramco also reportedly shut down its Ras Tanura refinery as a precaution after it was hit by a drone, an industry source told Reuters on Monday, adding that the situation was under control.
A new phase of the conflict began on Friday when the US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran, killing Khamenei and many other top Islamic State leaders. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks on neighboring Arab countries, prompting sharp reactions amid heightened conflict.
Shukla also seems to blame Donald Trump for this conflict.
Trump “dealmaker” and peace “negotiator”?
Remember that Donald Trump has previously described himself as a businessman and peace negotiator, even suggesting that he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for initiatives such as efforts to normalize relations in the Middle East.
Last week, Trump said he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his involvement in eight international conflicts since taking office last January. However, many of these disputes remain unresolved, and hostilities have rekindled in several areas he dealt with.
Critics say certain US policies or military decisions under Trump have fueled the instability. Rajeev Shukla’s commentary therefore reflects a political critique framed through satire, using the prestige of the Nobel Peace Prize as a rhetorical contrast to perceived conflict-driven policies.
