Several airlines have halted or canceled flights to and from the Middle East following the coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions that prompted airspace closures and security-related suspensions across the region.
Air India issued an advisory on Sunday informing passengers that it is offering full booking flexibility for those traveling to and from the Middle East. Many passengers have been affected due to the continued disruption of air travel.
Similarly, IndiGo also informed passengers earlier in the day that it has temporarily suspended select international flights that use Middle East airspace. The suspension has been extended until March 2, 2026, according to the airline.
Who is eligible for refunds and rebookings?
Air India said fliers who booked tickets on or before February 28, 2026 for a journey originally scheduled for March 5, 2026, will be eligible to reschedule their flight without additional charges. They can also choose to request a full refund to the original payment method.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation and prioritize the safety of our guests and crew. We encourage you to review your travel plans and check the status of your flight,” the airline said, urging passengers to check their official website for further updates.
Indigo also announced that passengers can opt for a full refund or reschedule their flight bookings at no additional cost. This waiver applies to passengers flying to and from the Middle East, as well as other affected international sectors, for bookings made on or before 28 February 2026, with travel scheduled until 7 March 2026.
“In the event that your booking or flight operating over this airspace is affected, updates will be communicated directly through the contact details provided during booking and web check-in,” the airline said in a separate X post.
Flight cancellation
The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said on Sunday that 444 flights by domestic carriers are expected to be canceled on March 1 due to airspace restrictions over Iran and parts of the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Sunday, SpiceJet said that additional flights between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been canceled due to the closure of the country’s airspace.
“Passengers are advised to check their flight status before traveling to the airport,” the airline said in an X post.
Several countries, including Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, closed their airspace after the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, AFP reported.
