Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Sunday evening amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
It is believed that the meeting was called in response to the situation after the attack on Iran by the United States and Israel.
The Prime Minister heads the CCS, while Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are its members.
US-Israeli strike kills Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
The CCS meeting follows the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East since the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Saturday. On Sunday, Iran confirmed that Supreme Leader Khamenei had been killed in an attack in Tehran.
Iran, which has vowed to respond to US-Israeli attacks, has launched a barrage of missile and drone attacks on neighboring countries where US military bases are located.
The Middle East is home to an estimated 11.4 million Indians, of which over 9.4 million are in the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
Continued missile and drone attacks by Iran have forced the closure of airspace in the Persian Gulf region and the cancellation of thousands of flights, including many to and from India.
