Pongal offerings on granite laid on the paths leading to all entrances to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple have been banned.
Granite was laid on the roads leading to all the entrances to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple as part of the Swadesh Darshan project of the Union and State Governments. The superior quality of the granite, which was laid in the traditional style, must be carefully preserved. However, preparing makeshift Pongal fire pits on newly laid granite could blacken the stone, cause it to break due to the heat from the fire in the fire pits, damage underground utility cables and security equipment, and lead to fire outbreaks.
In such a situation, no Pongala should be offered on the granite stones laid in the temple premises as part of the Swadesh Darshan project, the temple executive officer said in a statement, appealing for the cooperation of devotees.
