Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a branch of the country’s armed forces, said today it is carrying out its “most intense” offensive against US and Israeli bases in the Middle East, Reuters reported, citing state media.
The IRGC is carrying out a sixth wave of retaliatory attacks today, launching “large-scale missile and drone attacks” on 27 US bases and Israel’s Tel Nof airbase, the army headquarters in HaKirya in Tel Aviv and the defense industrial complex in the capital, Al Jazeera reported, citing Iranian state media.
The IRCG called the attacks “a harsh step of revenge with gradual, deplorable slaps” against Israel and the US, the Al Jazeera report added.
Fresh explosions were heard across the Gulf cities of Dubai, Doha and Manama on Sunday morning, according to AFP, following a day of Iranian strikes in the region in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes.
Iran vows revenge for Khamenei’s death
Iran vowed revenge after joint US-Israeli strikes killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday, state news agency IRNA said.
While US President Donald Trump described the campaign as “already a success”, he added: “We’ve done enormous damage. It would take years to recover”; Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned Khamenei’s killing as a “great crime”.
He promised that those responsible would face the consequences. “This great crime will never go unanswered and will turn a new page in the history of the Islamic world and Shiism. Iran will respond with all its strength and determination,” he said, warning that the perpetrators and masterminds of the attack would regret it.
Iran spokesman says Trump, Netanyahu ‘will suffer consequences’
AFP reported that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, said on Sunday that the country had prepared for “all scenarios” after Khamenei’s death and that the US and Israel would “bear the consequences”.
“We prepared for these moments and considered all scenarios. US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have crossed our red lines and will bear the consequences,” Ghalibaf said in a video broadcast by state television.
Donald Trump warns that it is better not to do this
Meanwhile, in a post on Truth Social, Trump warned Iran of retaliation and threatened to “hit them with force never seen before.”
He wrote: “Iran has just declared that they will hit very hard today, harder than they have ever been hit before. HOWEVER THEY WON’T BECAUSE WHEN THEY DO WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN!”
- ANI reported that Bahrain’s interior ministry on Sunday said a drone had attacked the country’s international airport, causing material damage but no casualties.
- The relevant Dubai authorities have revealed that debris from aerial interception operations caused a fire in one of the berths at the Jebel Ali port without causing any injuries.
- One person was killed in Abu Dhabi on Saturday after authorities in the United Arab Emirates said they intercepted missiles fired from Iran, Reuters reported.
