The commissioner’s task force, Golconda Zone, along with the Gudimalkapur police, arrested two men for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling and seized 5,100 kg of marijuana, the total value of which is estimated to be ₹2.60 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Hazari Dinesh Singh alias Tinku Singh, 31, a driver from Amlapur, Tappachabutra, and Shankar Singh, 43, an auto driver from Shivlal Nagar, Kumarwadi, Dhoolpet. Police said Hazari Dinesh Singh allegedly operated as a peddler while Shankar Singh helped as a side trader.
According to the police, both are natives of Hyderabad and were earlier involved in narcotics-related cases. Hazari Dinesh Singh was earlier arrested by various police in Goshamahal, Mangalhat, Tappachabutra, Yacharam and Humayun Nagar. Shankar Singh was earlier arrested by the Afzalgunj police in connection with a marijuana case.
Investigators said the two allegedly began selling marijuana because of financial constraints, pooling money to procure contraband and splitting the profits. Hazari Dinesh Singh allegedly sourced the substance from a supplier identified as Ashraf alias Ashwaq from Nanded in Maharashtra. He would allegedly travel to Nanded, procure the material, transport it to Hyderabad, repackage it in bags of about 10 grams and sell them to customers.
Acting on credible information, the task force and the Gudimalkapur police arrested the accused and seized the contraband. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act at Gudimalkapur police station. An investigation is underway.
