Several people were injured in a group clash in Naregal village of Haveri district

An argument that started over crackers during a bull procession organized as part of Kara Hunnime (Full Moon Day) escalated and led to a group clash that left six people injured in Naregal village of Hangal taluk in Haveri district on Monday.
After the clash of the groups, tension prevailed in the village.
The Hangal police immediately reached the village and brought the situation under control.
Haveri District Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagodi visited Naregal village and reviewed the situation.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
Those injured in the encounter have been identified as Lohit Kurubar, Shivaraj Kurubar, Nagappa Kurubar, Jayappa Kurubar, Ningaraj Kurubar, Mallappa Kodamaggi, Khaja Goundi and Bashasab Goundi.
The injured were treated at Hangal Taluk Hospital. And three of them were shifted to KMCRI Hospital in Hubballi for further treatment.
Bull calves decorated for the Kara Hunnime festival were being carried in a procession when crackers burst outside the village mosque, leading to a verbal fight, police said.
While one version is that initially a verbal duel broke out between Lohit Kurbar and Khaja Goundi, which escalated into a fight, resulting in Lohit being attacked with a betelnut cutting sickle. Subsequently, when Lohit’s relatives interrogated Khaj and his father Bhashasab, they were also attacked with a sickle, leading to another brawl and eight people were injured.
The second version is that the clash took place soon after the crackers burst and the two groups attacked each other.
Ms. Yashoda Vantagodi told reporters that they are currently registering a case in connection with the clash. She said the situation was under control and the culprits would be charged.
