The Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGNPDCL) achieved the highest ever peak power consumption in its history when it reached 6,057 megawatts at 10:23 am on Saturday (February 28), out of a total demand of about 16,600 MW registered in the state around the same time.
According to Northern Discom Chairman and Managing Director K. Varun Reddy, the highest peak demand registered by the Discom was on March 11 last year when it reached 5,816 MW. There was a jump of more than 240MW in the highest peak demand recorded on Saturday compared to the previous peak.
The CMD explained that advance planning and prompt measures have been taken to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply. According to him, special emphasis was placed on strengthening the infrastructure. As part of this, 35 new 33/11 kV substations were charged, 366 additional power transformers were installed and the capacity increase of 7,600 transformers was completed.
In addition, eight overloaded 33 kV feeders were bifurcated, 1,200 km of AC 33 kV lines were laid and 392 capacitor banks were installed to reduce low voltage problems. A special action plan was prepared for the summer season.
Work such as maintenance of transformers, line inspections, repair of loose line joints and storage of necessary material were intensified. Emergency teams have been prepared in each division and a special monitoring system has been launched for quick redressal of complaints. He reiterated that regardless of the increase in demand, uninterrupted supply of electricity will be ensured.
