Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the upgraded section of the Cuddalore-Madapattu National Highway on Wednesday through a video conference.
An amount of ₹ 428.59 crore was spent on the project executed by the State Highways Department (Project Wing) with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
The total length of the highway is 37.36 km, of which 33.87 km falls in Cuddalore district, 2.88 km in Villupuram district and 0.610 km in Kallakurichi district. A total of 21.18 hectares of land was acquired for the project and compensation of ₹33 crore was provided to the land owners.
The State Highway includes one major bridge, one road over bridge, four minor bridges, 74 culverts, six major junctions, 38 minor junctions, 35 bus shelters with toilets, 849 street lights, 110 solar flashing lights and seven tall mast lights. A total of 8,770 saplings were planted on both sides of the road.
The highway will benefit the residents of 24 villages from three districts and will significantly reduce their travel time.
