A Duty Magistrate has granted bail to Indian Youth Congress (IYC) national president Udaji Bhan Chiba in connection with the “shirtless protest” the party staged at the AI Impact Summit. Certain bail conditions were also imposed by the Duty Magistrate while granting the bail, his counsel said.
Advocate Sulaiman Mohammad Khan told news agency ANI, “The Magistrate was pleased enough to grant bail to Uday Bhanu Chiba and in the bail order we have just read, he explained that the Police Crime Branch has not been able to explain its reasons for seeking extension of PC custody of Uday Bhanu Chiba…”
“Certain conditions were imposed that he must surrender his passport and electronic devices before the court and must produce one surety ₹50,000 before the court…,” he said.
Advocate Sulaiman Mohammad Khan said that the Delhi Crime Branch has moved the request to extend the remand of Uday Bhanu Chiba.
“They sought a seven-day extension of PK’s detention and also moved two requests for the detention of one of the accused for five days and the other for two days,” the lawyer added.
Uday Bhanu Chib was arrested under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the Bharat Mandapam protest.
Chib was arrested on Tuesday by the Delhi Police, who described him as the “main conspirator” and “mastermind” of the February 20 protest at the summit venue.
IYC protest
On February 20, some members of the Indian Youth Congress staged a protest at the AI Impact India Summit venue in Delhi at the Bharat Mandapam by taking off their shirts with slogans reading “Compromised PM”.
According to ANI, the IYC workers marched inside Exhibition Hall No. 5, wearing or holding white T-shirts with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, along with slogans like “India-US Trade Deal”, “Epstein Files” and “PM is compromised”, which soon resulted in an uproar.
Party workers took off their shirts to protest the Indo-US trade deal, following which several other Youth Congress leaders were arrested in connection with the case, news agency ANI reported on February 27.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged a “conspiracy” behind the protest, the Congress backed its youth wing leaders and condemned the arrests.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Police’s Special Branch CP Crime Branch, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, said they had found concrete evidence that the incident was carried out “in a deep conspiracy”.
Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed solidarity with the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) following the arrest of its national president Uday Bhanu Chiba in connection with the “shirtless” protest at the Bharat Mandapam during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
