Hundreds of unemployed youth, including college students, participated in a job fair organized by Shivamogga District Administration and Zilla Panchayat on Friday. The administration has invited over 30 companies offering job opportunities to the youth, including those who have failed SSLC and PUC.
Job seekers stood in queues to register their names along with proof of educational attainment. Several women attended the fair with their newborns. Company representatives conducted entrance tests and interviews as part of the process of selecting suitable candidates to fill vacant positions.
Inaugurating the event, Shivamogga MLA SN Channabasappa said that no job is too small and youth can find better opportunities if they focus on improving their skills. He recalled his youth when he worked as an assistant at a health clinic and as a newspaper distributor. “Many people who take up leading positions later in life have built their careers by working hard at the beginning. Young people should not hesitate to step out of their comfort zone,” he said.
DS Arun, MLC opined that AI technology will lead to new job creation in the coming days. “There is no need to worry about job losses due to AI technology. We faced similar concerns about the Y2K issue earlier. But we have overcome that. Similarly, times were tough during COVID-19. I hope AI will create new jobs in the coming days,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti said industrialists and entrepreneurs have contributed to the growth of the nation by creating employment opportunities. Youth should make the most of the job fair to find a suitable job. “Skill-based jobs pay well. Young people should acquire a skill and excel in it to secure better opportunities,” he said.
SP B. Nikhil suggested that the youth should not hesitate to move out of their hometown and find a job. “We have to visit different places and get to know new cultures. Those who don’t hesitate to step out of their comfort zone will find better job opportunities,” he added.
