Abhishek was happy to get back in shape and scored a fifty in the T20 World Cup, saying he wants to spend some time in the middle. The opener also thanked his teammates for trusting him to perform.
“It’s always great when you contribute to the team. And I’ve been waiting for this moment for quite a long time now, so it’s finally happened. I’m really happy,” Abhishek told television stations after India’s innings on Thursday.
“I haven’t even played 10-12 balls in the whole tournament. So I wanted to spend some time and make a special mention of how they’ve treated me so far. It was like at the end, you wouldn’t feel like I’m not scoring goals for the team.”
“And I think in training as well, in the hotels, everyone was just waiting for this moment and everyone was just, you know, reminding me that you know, you’ve done it before and your time is not that far away. You just keep believing. So it happened,” he added.
Abhishek will be back in action when India take on the West Indies in their final Super 8 match in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1.
