District Collector Sumit Kumar on Thursday called for a coordinated strategy to boost employment opportunities, industrialization and poverty reduction across Chittoor district, identifying the dairy sector as a key driver of growth.
The Collector was addressing the District Industries and Export Promotion Committee (DIEPC) meeting here. He emphasized the urgency of expanding self-employment through micro food processing units in rural and urban areas to boost household income in line with the state government’s ‘one family, one entrepreneur’ vision.
Noting that dairying has already anchored the district’s economy with milk production close to 20 million liters per day, Mr. Sumit Kumar said better bank credit, infrastructure and value addition are essential to unleash its full potential. He directed officials to get mandal and bank reports of dairy loans disbursed during the current financial year and ensure greater convergence between banks and animal husbandry department.
The Collector said that line departments should strive to provide end-to-end support to budding entrepreneurs, women and youth under schemes like PMEGP, PMFME and PMMY. Women entrepreneurs who have completed the EDP training have been asked to ground the PMEGP units by March 8, while all the remaining sanctioned units must be grounded by March 31.
The Collector has ordered a perception survey of entrepreneurs who have received approval from regulatory departments to identify delays and ease of doing business.
