More than two years since Israel launched its multi-front assault on Palestine, it is once again time for Ramazan, and the territory fasts during the holy month. While a cease-fire has been in place since October last year, the Palestinians, with hundreds of displaced people, are still fighting to continue.
Amidst the rubble and starvation, Palestinians observe their fasts. The picture that Mint has chosen as Picture of the Day today, February 26, is a photo from Palestine.
It shows a man carrying a small girl, probably his daughter, on his shoulders leaving the Al-Aqsa compound, also known to Jews as the Temple Mount. According to Reuters, a man leaves a mosque after Taraweeh prayers.
The girl sitting on the man’s shoulders looks cheerful, and the Israeli flag can be seen in the background.
At the start of Ramadan on February 19, tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque under strict Israeli restrictions.
Ramadan is not only a holy month for Muslims around the world, it is also a time of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline through fasting and compassion. Eid is celebrated at the end of the month of Ramzan with the sighting of the crescent moon. Also read | Picture of the day: Rev. Even as Palestine endures more than two years of war on its soil and many mourn the loss of loved ones, Ramadan continues to inspire hope for brighter days and a future where peace and normalcy will be restored.
Meanwhile, as Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian Territory observe Ramadan fasts, there have been reports that Israeli settlers have attempted to set fire to a mosque in the occupied West Bank village of Tell.
“The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs condemned the attempt by a group of settlers to set fire to part of the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Mosque in the village of Tell near Nablus and to write racist slogans on its wall,” the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Religious Affairs said in a statement.
The ministry noted an increase in attacks on mosques in the West Bank, with a total of 45 in 2025.
“The burning of part of the mosque clearly shows the barbarism achieved by Israel’s racist incitement machine against Islamic and Christian holy places in Palestine,” the ministry said.
