Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is in Japan from February 25-26, will attend a series of events after his visit to Singapore on February 23-24.
The main highlight of the Japanese trip is a test ride in the country’s state-of-the-art Magnetic Levitation (SC Maglev) train, according to ANI, citing an official statement. The Chief Minister was riding in Yamanashi.
Features of the SC Maglev train
SC Maglev is Japan’s high-speed magnetic levitation train, developed by the Central Japan Railway Company.
It uses superconducting magnets to lift and propel the train above the tracks, eliminating friction and enabling speeds in excess of 600 km/h. Tested on the Yamanashi Maglev Line, it set a world speed record of 603 km/h in 2015. The train will operate on the Chuo Shinkansen line, which will provide a fast connection between Tokyo and Nagoya.
Japanese experts point out that the maglev system relies on superconducting magnets and a sophisticated trackway mechanism to provide stability and safety even at extremely high speeds. Currently, this technology is in the testing phase and is widely considered to be the standard for next-generation transportation.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Adityanath expressed his appreciation to the Japanese government and Yamanashi Prefecture Governor for their efforts to strengthen India-Japan relations and promote clean energy cooperation.
Speaking in Yamanashi, the CM said he was pleased that both the Japanese government and the governor were making significant contributions to deepening India-Japan ties and supporting the vision of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister Modi.
“I am very pleased that the Japanese government and the Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture are playing a significant role in strengthening Japan-India relations and promoting the efforts of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said UP CM Adityanath.
The Chief Minister also highlighted partnerships in the field of green hydrogen and academic excellence. Referring to the proposal made during the Governor’s visit to Uttar Pradesh, he said that the state has launched a major program to develop IIT Kanpur as a center of excellence.
He said that on the Governor’s initiative, the program aims to position IIT Kanpur as a center for green hydrogen technology, which he believes can contribute significantly to PM Modi’s mission to achieve energy self-sufficiency in UP.
Officials said the visit goes beyond mere technological observation and is meant to explore opportunities to improve modern transport infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, the report said.
The state has already launched major projects such as expressways, metro rail networks and regional rapid transit systems, he said, adding that the visit is also seen in the broader framework of India-Japan cooperation in high-speed rail, smart mobility and sustainable transport, which officials believe could influence the future of infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh and other regions.
