Uber Air taxis will revolutionize travel as the ride-hailing platform will no longer be limited to ground transportation. Aggressively expanding its fast-moving business presence, Uber has announced that it will introduce Joby Aviation’s electric aircraft to the Uber app.
This Joby-Uber partnership will take its first ride later this year. This multimodal transport will be launched in several cities around the world.
Dubai will be the first to see this miracle. Uber riders in New York, Los Angeles, the UK and Japan will also be able to enjoy the experience, subject to approval. These selected cities will offer a one-click booking option.
How to book an Uber Air taxi?
Step 1: Riders who are eager to experience the thrill of traveling in Uber Air cabs need to click on the app on their mobile phone.
Step 2: Riders will be able to select the Joby plane option in selected cities after entering their destination.
Step 3: Select the Uber Air taxi and click “Confirm Booking”.
Calling it the next generation of flight, Uber said in a statement: “With one tap, the app seamlessly connects and books every part of the trip – including Uber Black pick-up and drop-off.” Designed to seat up to four passengers, this aircraft will provide riders with a panoramic view of the city.
Launching this aerotaxi in the United States requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), for which Joby’s aircraft is in the final stages of the certification process. Uber, which is seeking successful commercial operations in the US, has already completed more than 50,000 miles of flight tests across its fleet.
Reaction on social networks
The plan to explore airspace to meet consumer demand for high-speed communications has sparked a strong response on social media. The user wrote: “Personally, it’s classic $UBER. They don’t need to invent airplanes. They just own the app. If $JOBY actually launches a commercial service this year, Uber will become the distribution layer for urban air mobility the same way it did for cars and food.”
Another user commented: “A significant innovation in transportation, but large-scale implementation will still need to resolve many technical, regulatory and infrastructure issues.” A third user said: “Only 100 miles on a charge worries me as a passenger…it will definitely improve.” A fourth user asked: “Is it possible to book Jobs only through Uber or only if you want to pair it with a car ride?
