Old buildings at Karaparamba Fish Market and Puthiyangadi Market need urgent action, an inspection by a team of engineers from the Kozhikode Corporation found.
The inspection followed the recent death of four laborers in Valiyangadi after they were hit by the sun visor of an old building. On Wednesday (February 25, 2026), it is said that steps will be taken to immediately evict the residents of the old buildings at Karaparamba Fish Market and Puthiyangadi Market. The report of the engineering team will be submitted to the Corporation Board for appropriate action.
So far, teams have completed inspection of 12 year-old buildings in the city to check their fitness. The official event started two days ago and will be completed on Thursday (February 26, 2026). Buildings are classified into stable buildings, buildings that can be preserved during repairs, and others that need urgent action. Corporation Secretary NK Hareesh said that all the buildings under the local body would be surveyed soon.
