The Kerala High Court on Monday (June 29, 2026) rejected the bail plea of Prasobha Valsan, councilor of Palakkad Corporation, for allegedly raping a Dalit woman.

The High Court had earlier rejected an anticipatory bail plea claiming that the allegations were baseless and that there were lapses in the investigation. However, the court found that the prosecution had made a prima facie case for his arrest and dismissed the case. Thereafter, Mr. Valsan surrendered to the police at the Palakkad Town station.

Mr. Valsan was expelled from the Palakkad District Congress Committee following political disputes over allegations against him.

The Dalit woman alleged that Mr. Valsan entered her house on the pretext of offering her a job and then raped her.
