A second-year integrated B.Tech student, identified as Vasantha, 19, of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) at Basar in Nirmal district, allegedly committed suicide on the university campus in the wee hours of Wednesday.
A sense of gloom has pervaded RGUKT, popularly known as IIIT Basar, after the tragic suicide of a student who hailed from Wanaparthy district.
Sources said she allegedly hanged herself to death in her hostel room in the early hours of the morning. The police suspect that personal problems may have driven her to the extreme step.
Sources added that she took the drastic step shortly after she received a call about the ‘suicide’ of a youth in her native place. Her body was taken to the government hospital in Bhainse. The Basar police have registered a case and are investigating.
Local student organizations have been demanding the establishment of a counseling center in the RGUKT campus for a long time so that similar incidents do not recur.
