BM Jayashankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Adarsh Group, Bengaluru, told the graduates on Wednesday that India’s growth story will not be written only in policy documents or in boardrooms; it will be written with honesty, skill, courage and compassion. “You are the architects of the 21st century, entering a country among the world’s fastest growing major economies,” he said.
Addressing the 8th convocation of JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) at the SJCE campus here, he advised the fresh graduates to build technologies that help. “Build systems that are sustainable, not just scalable. Innovation does not enhance human dignity. Don’t get so consumed in your profession by algorithms, machines or metrics that you forget the human dimension,” he suggested.
Mr. Jayashankar, a former student of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), also advised the graduates to choose the hard right over the easy wrong. At a time when ethics in data, technology, governance and business are constantly being tested, be a professional company they can trust, he said.
CMD stated that education is the foundation on which to build and said that the moment you believe you have ‘arrived’ your growth stops. “Constantly add floors to your intellect; constantly enhance your skills and enhance your competence. Our greatest achievement is not concrete or steel. It is trust,” said Mr. Jayashankar, who also shared how his construction company has built trust over decades.
Congratulating the students on their success, he said, “Today is not the end. It’s the commissioning. You’re being held accountable.”
Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt, who is the Chancellor of JSS STU, declared the convocation open.
As many as 1,832 students have passed this convocation and are ready to start a new journey in their lives. Among the degree holders are 1,081 Bachelor of Engineering graduates, 83 BCA graduates, 99 MCA graduates, 118 M. Sc. graduates, 218 MBA graduates and 29 PhD students. In honor of academic excellence, 74 medals have been awarded, among which are 37 gold medals for the top of the field and 37 foundation medals for meritorious achievements.
JSS Mahavidyapeeta Executive Secretary CG Betsurmath administered the oath to the graduates. Earlier, JSS STU Vice-Chancellor AN Santosh Kumar welcomed the guests and read out a report on the achievements of the university.
Present were Dr. B. Suresh, Director Technical Education Division JSS STU, Registrar SA Dhanraj, Controller of Examinations P. Nanjundaswamy, Academic Council Member and Ex-IPS Officer Jija Madhavan Harisingh and others.
There was great excitement on the students’ faces as they received their diplomas, with their proud parents by their side for this special occasion in their lives. Dressed in convocation attire, they congratulated each other and posed for selfies to capture the unforgettable moment.
