The condition of 15 persons, including seven women and three children under five years of age, who are undergoing treatment in private hospitals for acute kidney failure after allegedly consuming adulterated milk in Rajamahendravaram, remains critical.
By Wednesday, five people had died of acute kidney failure linked to the consumption of adulterated milk.
The 15 survivors are among 106 families who consumed milk supplied by the same vendor between February 16 and 18. Five-month-old Mallareddy Ruhanya Rudri Taarvi is the youngest survivor, who has been on ventilator support since February 22.
In a health bulletin issued by East Godavari District Collector Kirthi Chekuri on Wednesday, the results of the samples tested at various laboratories were awaited.
Control samples of milk and ghee collected from the houses of 106 families are tested at the VIMTA laboratory in Hyderabad and the Food Testing Laboratory at JNTU-Kakinada. The Veterinary Biological Research Institute (VBRI-Vijayawada) is yet to submit its findings of the toxicological analysis conducted on 41 samples of dry and green fodder and water fed to cattle at the milk seller’s dairy.
