
MLC Shashil G. Namoshi lauded the Hospital Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital at Kalaburagi, Karnataka for providing quality healthcare services to poor patients and insured workers and described its functioning as commendable and exemplary.

Speaking at the 75th Foundation Day (Diamond Jubilee) celebrations of ESIC held on February 24 at the Kalaburagi Hospital Hall, Mr. Namoshi said the Kalaburagi region has witnessed a significant increase in the number of registered workers under the ESIC scheme, from 50,000 registered workers in 2014 to 2.5 million people currently trusting the institution.
Noting that the Kalyana region of Karnataka has a large population of economically weaker and working class families, he said efforts should be made to ensure that people do not have to travel to cities like Solapur or Hyderabad, even for minor treatments. He said there is a proposal for HKE Society’s MRMC Medical College to collaborate with ESIC Hospital to further strengthen healthcare delivery in the region.
Chincholi MLA Avinash Jadhav said there was a general perception that government hospitals were not responding effectively to patients and stressed the need to dispel such misconceptions. He urged people to use government facilities instead of spending huge amounts in private hospitals.
Commissioner of Police SD Sharanappa appreciated the consistent service of ESIC for the last 75 years and appealed to the students to support the efforts to make Kalaburagi a drug and cyber crime free city. He urged citizens not to fall prey to substance abuse and advised them to report crimes by dialing 112 in case of emergency and 1930 in cases of cyber crime.
Earlier, the dean of ESIC Medical College Dr. SV Kshirsagar said the hospital provides quality treatment at minimum cost. “In January alone, 33,088 patients used the services of the OPD and 1,732 were hospitalized. Of the OPD visits, 11,638 were insured and 21,450 lay members of the public. Among the hospitalized patients were 721 insured and 1,011 uninsured patients,” he said.
Noting that ESIC Kalaburagi caters not only to the insured workers but also to the general public, he said cashless treatment is provided to the insured beneficiaries while others are charged nominal charges – ₹11 for CBC test, ₹14 for X-ray, ₹30 for ultrasound, ₹1,272 for normal delivery and ₹7 for catarrhal surgery, ₹4 The ward bed charges are ₹75 per day and bed charges at ICU ₹ 257 per day, he added.
