Radio-tagging of Olive Ridley sea turtles along the Chennai coast provided the first scientific evidence of nesting site fidelity, as a satellite-tagged female Kayal turtle returned to the same shore three times in a single nesting season.
The turtle tagged and released in Besant Nagar traveled south before returning back to Chennai to nest repeatedly, laying a total of 389 eggs. Another tagged turtle, ‘Megalai’, returned twice and laid 211 eggs.
