The Muvattupuzha police registered a case after a woman alleged that her husband had forced triple talaq on her through SMS.
The FIR, filed on Monday, was based on the complaint of a 31-year-old woman from Alappuzha. The accused has been identified as Suhail, 32, of Thrikkunnapuzha, Alappuzha.
The police have registered a case under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abuse of a woman by her husband or relatives). Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019, which make talaq void and illegal and prescribe penalties for pronouncing it, have also been invoked.
