The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has issued an order allowing a conditional 50% relaxation in revised water rates to differently abled persons, orphanages and old age homes. The concession conditions include an annual income below ₹ 2 lakh and a monthly water consumption limit of below 15 kilolitres. The concession will apply to consumption up to 60 kiloliters per month. To use the concession, new applications must be submitted each year by March 31. Apart from families with autistic/differently-abled members, orphanages registered under the Orphanage Control Board and old age homes offering their services free of charge are eligible for concession. KWA issued orders in February 2023 to charge tourist water by 1 paise per litre. BPL families with a monthly consumption of up to 15 kiloliters are currently given free delivery. Domestic tariffs apply to retirement homes and orphanages within the council.
