Two lawyers, 25-year-old Nivedita Gurupadappa Bannal and 26-year-old Haiyalappa Sangappa Killedar, both natives of Shorapur taluk, were recently selected as judges after successfully clearing the third round of examinations held for the post.
They stood firm in the midst of many hardships and prepared for the post of referees through determination and hard work.
“I had a specific goal when I got into law studies at Sir Siddappa Kambali Law College, Dharwad. From there, I continued my journey with the dream of becoming a judge. Putting aside personal life difficulties and continuing with dedication, smart study, hard work and consistency, anything is possible,” Ms. Bannal said.
Ms. Bannal’s father, Gurupadappa Bannal, is a lawyer practicing in the Shorapur court, while her mother, Basamma, is an accredited health activist.
“Immediately after completing my law degree in 2024, I started my practice in Shorapur and then moved to Bengaluru where I continued my practice in the city civil court. Meanwhile, I prepared for the bar exams in my spare time. My determination and consistency helped me secure 45th rank in the state,” she said.
Haiyalappa Sangappa Killedar, who belongs to a sheep farming family, successfully cleared the judicial clerk’s examination and was selected as a judge by securing the 18th rank in the state.
In 2022, he completed his law degree from Raja Lakhmagouda Law College, Belagavi and started practicing in the Shorapur Court along with his father’s brother and advocate Basavaraj Killeder, who inspired and supported him to achieve this.
“To make my dreams a reality, I studied tirelessly, faced exams with confidence and achieved a big goal,” Mr Killedar said.
While Yadgir district got a bad name for its poor educational record, these two young lawyers took the district to new heights by becoming judges.
“We wish them the best and hope they get justice for the victims who approach the court for help,” said both Mr. Basavaraj Killedar and Mr. Gurupadappa Bannal.
