
Public services in New York City, including schools, will open for in-person attendance today after the northeastern United States experienced a blizzard on Monday that dumped 16 to 19 inches of snow on most parts of the Big Apple. Parts of Eastern Staten Island also reported over 24 inches of snow from the winter storm.
Currently in America, in the midst of a historic snowstorm, Anand Mahindra, chairman of Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) group, took to social media to share a positive twist to the inclement weather.
Blizzards over parts of the northern and northeastern United States began Sunday evening and continued into Monday, severely affecting daily activities. Forecasts of a snowstorm and severe weather conditions prompted the US National Weather Service (NWS) to urge citizens to stay indoors and off the roads.

In a photo post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on February 24, Mahindra wrote about the things he did in New York after the blizzard ended.

“The blizzard finally called it a day… And I admit I couldn’t resist the temptation to join the hordes of New Yorkers daring to take selfies proving they survived the ‘Blizzard of 2026,'” he wrote.
I also add a life lesson: “And on my walk I spotted this little citizen of the storm. Out of the screaming winds and the city under lockdown….emerged this mini snowman. Proof that even nature’s fury can leave something playful behind.”
“Maybe that’s the result of every storm: not just damage, but unexpected life,” he added.

When a user commented on the post that the billionaire didn’t have an “essential” item in his hand: “There’s one essential thing missing from the survival kit, Anand! Where’s the Starbucks cup to add that classic NYC glamor to the selfie?”, Mahindra had it first.
He wrote: “Starbucks? Are you kidding me? Are you asking someone who is obsessed with spreading Araku – an Indian coffee – considered one of the best in the world?”
He added that the company plans to open the first U.S. Araku Café in midtown Manhattan by this summer, adding, “Then you can count on selfies with a cup of Araku in hand…”

Meanwhile, in its latest bulletin, the NWS predicted more snow today over parts of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Lower Great Lakes and central Appalachians. The storm is expected to move east into northeast/eastern Canada by Wednesday evening, he added.

The AP reported that forecasters called Monday’s storm the “strongest in a decade” after more than 2 feet (61 cm) of snow fell in parts of the Northeast. Some hundreds of thousands of residents in Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Rhode Island also lost power.
The NWS said it is also tracking another storm that could bring more snow to the region later this week.
Mayor Mamdani paying New Yorkers to shovel snow after historic blizzard?
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced at a press conference that the city will pay registered citizens to shovel snow on city streets during the historic winter storm. He said 33 vans and two buses were arranged in coordination with the NYC Department of Sanitation to transport shovels to areas where they were needed.

The online registration notice said applicants must be at least 18 years old, legally eligible to work in the U.S. and able to handle physically demanding work. Those interested in the appointment must bring two passport-size photos, two original IDs and a social security card, he added.
