Its state secretary P. Shanmugam on Monday stressed that the CPI-M was focused on finding dubious seat allocations by the DMK for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections and made it clear on Monday that the party was not considering seeking a seat in the Rajya Sabha.
Welcoming the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) joining the DMK-led alliance, he said the development would help boost efforts to defeat the AIADMK-BJP combine.
Describing the AIADMK-BJP alliance as one forged out of coercion, Mr Shanmugam expressed doubts about its durability, noting that some allies, including the AMMK and the Maanila Tamil Congress, had said they would hold seat-sharing talks with the BJP rather than the AIADMK.
He said there was no possibility of the Congress pulling out of the DMK-led alliance and its continuation was important for both the coalition and the party. The search for additional seats was the prerogative of each party, he added.
Referring to actor and Tamilaga leader Vettri Kazhagama Vijaye, he said that the latter had been criticizing the DMK since the formation of his party and questioned his recent remarks about meeting people in villages only after the government was formed. Vijay should take moral responsibility for the Karur stampede, he said, adding that shirking responsibility does not befit a leader.
